Sub-association for aquaculture and fisheries
Members: ± 150
Aquarius is the study association of the department of Aquaculture and Fisheries of Wageningen University, and a part of study association 'De Veetelers' which represents all animal science students. Aquarius creates a bridge between the theoretical academic knowledge and the practical application in real life. Hence, Aquarius organizes activities, such as excursions to companies related to aquaculture and fisheries, and visits to several research institutes. Once a year Aquarius organizes a weekend excursion in Holland and/or a foreign excursion. But Aquarius does more than
arranging excursions and debates. We also organize multiple social gatherings such as a barbecues, angling and drinks. All our activities are voluntary organised and participation is voluntary as well.
Recently, we went on a trip to Belgium. We visited a lot of companies and different research stations. In the upcoming year we will have our annual trout fishing trip, general members meeting and of course our famous New Years Drink. The rest of the year will be filled with excursions, a cooking clinic and at least one symposium.
Aquarius has nowadays about 150 members and exists already over 20 years. Our study association creates a network for all students with interest in aquaculture, fisheries and marine resource management. Aquarius is pleased to have an increasing group of international students among the members.
