The Lesser Antillean Iguana is a critically endangered species endemic to the Lesser Antilles where it only remains on a handful of islands. Despite its alarming conservation status, little is known about the reproductive biology. Within this project you will perform ecological research around nesting sites and monitor hatchling iguanas, allowing to answer a range of important questions among which, where are nesting sites, which variables are important for nesting sites, how many iguanas nest, how many eggs hatch, how far do hatchling iguanas migrate? You will implement survey techniques, use camera traps, as well as radio tracking to collect your field data.

We are looking for students that can work independently, have an assertive and hardworking work ethic, and have a good physical condition. Experience with tropical fieldwork is a plus. Important condition is that you can be on St. Eustatius for the full 6 months.

Period: half June – half December 2023
