It may seem self-evident: that food in the Netherlands is safe and that we can use products safely; that animals and nature are treated with care. We can rely on this because there are laws that companies must comply with. Most of the time things go well, but not always. That is why we are here as a supervisory authority.
Together for the safety of people, animals and nature
Our goal is that you can buy and use food and products without worry. You should be able to trust that they are safe. We believe it is important that animal welfare and health are properly safeguarded. This means animals have sufficient space, food, safe shelter, and receive appropriate care.
The NVWA is constantly evolving. Legislation and regulations in the Netherlands and the EU continually bring new changes. We are also dealing with exciting innovations, such as the use of drones for inspections or new methods to combat the tiger mosquito. Our work affects every resident of the Netherlands and is therefore of great interest to the media, politics, businesses and the public.
We are committed to keeping nature in the Netherlands clean and healthy. Our environment is vulnerable and is affected by, among other things, pollution and disease. We strive to maintain and, where necessary, restore the balance.
Working at the NVWA means contributing to a safer, healthier Netherlands for people, animals and nature. Whether it concerns safe food on our plates, proper care for animals, protection of nature, or the ability to enjoy toys and attractions without concern: working at the NVWA truly matters and makes a difference every day.
Turn your ideals into action
