Sub-association for horses
Number of members: +- 160
The Horse Breeding Association (PFC) is a sub-association of study association “De Veetelers”, focused on all aspects of the horse sector. We, as the PFC, aim to provide Animal Sciences students with practical experience alongside their lectures by organising excursions to horse events, clinics, stud farms, and other businesses.
This year, for instance, we visited a HIT-aktiv stable, went to Jumping Amsterdam, and organised a hoof trimming course where we got to practice our hoof trimming skills on real dead horse hooves. We also offer a beginner’s class annually and a clinic and/or trail ride for advanced riders, such as vaulting, western riding, or horseball.
Every year, we organise a theme or discussion evening. This year we had the honour to welcome Annemarie van der Toorn, a well-known Dutch horse trainer, to talk about “Horse psychology”. We also organise a weekend trip each academic year, either in The Netherlands or abroad, visiting equestrian companies and organisations, while also enjoying trail rides and fun evenings together!
All our activities are made possible by the financial support received from our sponsors, Equilin and Anivado.
If you want to enhance your studies and deepen your knowledge of horses, become a member of PFC! (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.)

Sub-association for sheep and goats and other small ruminants
Members: ±100
Hello Veetelers, Veetelerinnen and other interested parties,
The Sheep and Goat Study Club (SGSC) is, as the name suggests, interested in sheep and goats. However, not just sheep and goats are in the spotlight, as we also organize activities around other small ruminants like llamas and alpacas. Like other sub-associations of Study association "De Veetelers", the SGSC organizes fun and educational activities.
Our goal is to introduce students to the sheep and goat sector, which is relatively unknown. We do this by organizing various excursions both in the Netherlands or abroad. Some activities we plan include: a lambing course in which you will learn about the possible complications which can occur during the birth of a lamb and what measures should be taken to give it assistance; a sheep shearing course in which you will learn how to shear the wool of a sheep yourself, and even an excursion to an animal feed producing company. We also tend to visit alpaca farms once a year!
Last year, we organised a Binex to Brabant. Where we had the opportunity to visit many different goat farms in the area and also went to the “Day of the sheep” in Ermelo. Not only did we learn about the sheep and goat sector, but we also got to cuddle a lot of animals. We had such a great time with all the members who joined, so we cannot wait to organize another Binex this year as well.
If you want to broaden your horizons and learn new things, or just cuddle lambs and walk alpacas, join the SGSC on a field trip and sign up through the memberSHEEP form!
With bleating regards,
The SGSC board,
Evelien Smits (President)
Laura Berbee (Secretary)
Leah Gooren (Treasurer)
Thera Bos (General Member)
Nina Horstink (General Member)

Sub-association for intensive livestock
Members: ± 200
Since 1992, students are brought in touch with the intensive livestock component of the agricultural sector by Porculum. Not only the main branches, like pig and poultry, but less common, like veal-calves, as well. The versatility of the sector, combined with its changes, challenges and issues, give way to the possibilities of discussion and various perspectives for the interested student.
Contact with the sector is made by excursions, of which one is planned every period. These excursions do not only consist of visiting livestock farms, but of secondary companies as well. Examples of these companies are Agrifirm, Vencomatic, PIC-NL and Westfort. Besides these excursions, we organize a “foreign excursion week” (BuitEx) and “internal excursion weekend” (BinEx) every year. During the “BinEx” and “BuitEx” the board organizes a program in which various companies are visited.
Besides these educative activities, we offer some social activities as well. Two examples of this are the 'Unlimited Spareribs Event' and the VATS'' ('Varken-Aan-'T-Spit', or 'Pig On A Spit' in English), the latter in which we work together with another sub-association.
As the board of this sub-association, we highly value attendance to activities. Knowledge from practice is often just as important as theoretical knowledge from the books. That is why we encourage you to take part in our excursions to gain applied knowledge during your studies.
We hope to see you during our activities
Greetings,
The Porculum Board
Sub-association for non-production animals
Members: ±170
Bestia Turba Ferina, BTF, is a sub-association of study association "De Veetelers". We organize excursions, theme nights and other activities, all focused on non-production animals. This is a wide range of animals, from companion animals to wild animals and everything in between.
Every year we organize several activities and try to cover all facets within our sub-association.
Each period there is one activity. An annual activity is the anatomy evening, this event is organized in collaboration with the WUR. A variety of animals have already been covered, from snake to lamb and from rabbit to swan. Besides the annual anatomy evening, the Buitex (inernational excursion) and Binex (national excursion) take place alternately. During the Buitex/Binex a diverse range of foundations and companies are visited.
